Sunday 22nd September we will be having a shared lunch after our Meeting for Worship that starts at 10.30am and we will then be watching and listening to the Swarthmore lecture from July 2024. The afternoon session will start at about 1.45pm and probably end about 3.30pm.The lecture is given by Ben Jarman and his title is ‘Getting what we deserve? Imprisonment and the Challenge of Doing Justice.’ It's about Ben Jarman’s research project, and the consequences of the anguish caused by the murder of 2 graduates by a released prisoner at Fishmongers Hall in 2019 who injured 3 other people when he ran onto London Bridge. Ben was present and he knew the 2 graduates who were murdered. Despite the seriousness of the subject, the lecture was positive and constructive.
We are fortunate to have Tim Newell joining us on this occasion and he will be facilitating a discussion after watching the lecture considering key issues, and the concept of ‘proximity’ that Ben introduces as necessary to develop a sense of community and belonging that are so essential for everybody but especially for released prisoners.
