Get Your Garden Growing! Introduction to Organic Vegetable Gardening

This is an IN-PERSON workshop.

Interested in planting a vegetable garden but not sure what to plant or where to start? Come to Alemany Farm to learn the basics of getting your garden up and running and ideal planting times for each crop in a Bay Area climate. We’ll discuss planting techniques, soil preparation, basic irrigation needs, and some challenges that one can expect. The workshop will include lecture, Q&A, and hand-on learning.

Thomas Abbott is a Black farmer, gardener, community organizer, and activist who uses his horticultural skills and ancestry to drive social and cultural change. As an Urban Agriculturist and Science Educator, Thomas has spent the last 15 years in San Francisco honing his craft in a variety of settings. From teacher, to landscaper, urban farmer, builder, marine biologist, and much more. Thomas leads with as much social consciousness and inclusion as possible, working to dismantle social gaps and racial disparities through the education of holistic farming and other horticultural practices. Besides gardening, Thomas enjoys playing guitar, eating burritos, learning new plant crafts such as natural dyeing, and spending time with close friends.

Suggested Donation: $35 per person; no one turned away for lack of funds. Our workshops are donation-based. Your donation supports the farm to grow and give away food for free. Please give at the suggested level or higher if you are able.

We encourage everyone to make an offering commensurate with your means, and in an amount that feels powerful to you - such gifts make workshops like these possible.
