About this Event

Press start on the ultimate night of geeky goodness and queer-powered revelry at Get Lit: Gaymer Night! Whether you’re a gaming enthusiast or a newbie to the world, you’ll be swept away by the whirlwind of excitement and camaraderie that fills the air. With a wide array of activities designed to delight both hardcore gamers and casual players alike, there's something for everyone to enjoy!

  • Check out our special exhibit (opening May 24), which explores how Americans use role-playing and video games to define and respond to our culture.
  • Compete with friends old and new in our Gaymer Trivia Challenge and see how you stack up against the competition.
  • Stretch your creative muscles at our Miniatures Painting Station.
  • Check out a display of screen used props from films like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Doom, Warcraft, and more, from our friends at the Horror and SciFi Prop Preservation Association.
  • Attempt the Wizard's Challenge, a unique escape room-style game, and solve puzzles and riddles as you explore the museum.
  • Get a gaymer themed poem from our partners at Poems While You Wait.
  • Enjoy beer, wine, and the night’s specialty cocktail, Potion of Healing, a bright and bubbly cocktail with hints of lavender. Non-alcoholic options available as well.

Charge up your controllers, grab your 20-sided dice, and be ready to get lit!

The Horror & SciFi Prop Preservation Association (The HSPPA) is a not-for-profit traveling museum of screen-used and production-made props, costumes, and film relics that focus on the Horror & Science Fiction genres. The HSPPA champions the collection and preservation of some of the most incredible screen-used props in filmic history, bringing them out from behind closed doors for the fans to experience up close; promoting prop conservation so these artifacts can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Founded by James Azrael in 2015 in Chicagoland, The HSPPA has done well over 100 exhibits from Phoenix, AZ to Atlantic City, NJ; appeared on numerous news program segments including WGN-Chicago and Fox5- Las Vegas as well as Season 2 of Me-TV’s “Collector’s Call”; James has additionally released three books titled: “The HSPPA: Volumes 1 – 3”, detailing hundreds of props/wardrobes from the exhibits along with personal stories and anecdotes from the HSPPA Curators, Collectors, and even some of the actors and SP/MUFX artists from the films!

Poems While You Wait is a simple and fun concept: we (published poets and professors / teachers) bring our vintage portable typewriters to a public place. Then, for a small suggested donation (all of which benefits the 501(c)3 literary nonprofit Rose Metal Press) we type out an original poem for our customers and readers. The topic of the poem is entirely up to the customer, and we have done events for children, adults, and families. The customers not only walk away with an artifact and souvenir of their experience but also with a possible gift and a memorable and unpretentious interaction with poetry.
