Verbinden. – Goethe-Medaille Preisträger*innen im Gespräch in Berlin Die Preisträger*innen der Goethe-Medaille 2025 stellen sich in Berlin dem Gespräch: Die Germanistin und Sprachvermittlerin Li Yuan aus China, der belgische Autor und Historiker David Van Reybrouck sowie stellvertretend für den inhaftierten türkischen Kulturförderer Osman Kavala seine Ehefrau, die Sozialwissenschaftlerin Ayşe Buğra. Unter dem Titel „Gestalten. Vernetzen. Verbinden.“ sprechen Preisträger*innen der Goethe-Medaille über ihr Engagement für Kultur, Bildung und Zivilgesellschaft.
Seit 1955 verleiht das Goethe-Institut einmal im Jahr die Goethe-Medaille als offizielles Ehrenzeichen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Mit der Goethe-Medaille werden Persönlichkeiten geehrt, die sich in besonderer Weise um die Vermittlung der deutschen Sprache sowie den internationalen Kulturaustausch verdient gemacht haben. Die Goethe-Medaille ist der wichtigste Preis der auswärtigen Kultur- und Bildungspolitik der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
Moderiert wird das Gespräch von der Autorin und Journalistin Shelly Kupferberg.
Das Gespräch findet in deutscher und englischer Sprache mit simultaner Übersetzung statt. Im Anschluss sind alle Anwesenden zu einem Empfang eingeladen.
Die Veranstaltung ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Goethe-Instituts und Holtzbrinck Berlin. In Kooperation mit der Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss.

[EN] Create. Connect. Collaborate. – Conversations with the 2025 Goethe Medal Awardees
The awardees of the 2025 Goethe Medal will come together in Berlin for a public conversation: Li Yuan, German studies scholar and expert in German as a foreign language; Belgian author and historian David Van Reybrouck; and representing the imprisoned Turkish cultural promoter Osman Kavala, his wife, the social scientist Ayşe Buğra. Under the title “Create. Connect. Collaborate.“, the awardees will discuss their commitment to culture, education, and civil society.
Since 1955, the Goethe-Institut has awarded the Goethe Medal once a year as an official decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Goethe Medal honours public figures who render outstanding services to conveying the German language and to international cultural exchange. The Goethe Medal is the most important award of Germany’s foreign cultural and educational policy.
The conversation will be moderated by author and journalist Shelly Kupferberg.
The event will be held in German and English with simultaneous interpretation. Following the discussion, all guests are warmly invited to a reception.
The event is a joint project of the Goethe-Institut and Holtzbrinck Berlin. In co-operation with the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss.
