Germany vs Scotland, Euro 2024

On 14 June in Munich the game between Germany and Scotland will open the 64th European Football Championship. The match will take place at the Munich Football Arena https://ticket-euro2024.com/events/202330. 

In the European Championship will take part 24 teams which are divided into six groups. The top two from each four will go to the 1/8 finals. In the play-offs will also get the four best teams who took the third place in the groups. Now the reigning European champion is Italy which won the title in 2020. 

Recall that the German national team did not participate in the qualifying rounds taking advantage of the priority of the host country. 

But the Scottish national team had to work hard to take part in the European Championship after a long time. The Scottish national team is one of the oldest but far from the most titled teams in the world. However it became the main discovery of the 2024 selection. 

Before the previous Euros the Scots had not qualified for international tournaments for two decades and the last time they participated in the World Cup was in 1998. That all changed last year. The Scots won 3 out of 4 qualifying matches and topped Group A. And they won very confidently: 3-0 against Cyprus Spain 2-0 and Norway 2-1. In the same way they beat Georgia 2-0. 

"The Scottish football miracle began in the 2010s when the country started to create football academies for children and build indoor stadiums. We were able to see the results of the targeted policy of football popularisation already at the Euro qualifying stage. It is noteworthy that except for a couple of players all the players of the national team were born and raised in Scotland. These are not "rented" for a lot of money legionnaires.  

In the plans of head coach Steve Clarke's team now not only the Euros but also the World Cup 2026. But this is in the plans and while they are waiting for their first very serious opponent - the national team of Germany.
