Born and raised in Los Angeles, Gerald Albright began his music career as a saxophonist before switching to bass after seeing Louis Johnson in concert. After graduating from the University of Redlands, he joined Patrice Rushen’s band, eventually replacing the bassist mid-tour. Throughout the 80s, Albright became a renowned session and touring musician, collaborating with artists like Anita Baker, Ray Parker Jr., and Whitney Houston.
He launched his solo career in smooth jazz with Just Between Us in 1987 and has been a significant figure in the genre with chart-topping albums and numerous hits. Notable works include Pushing The Envelope (2010) and Slam Dunk (2014), as well as collaborations on Grammy-nominated projects like 24/7 with Norman Brown and Summer Horns by Dave Koz and Friends. Albright has also toured with Phil Collins and Jonathan Butler and released albums such as Smooth (1994) and Groovology (2002). His diverse music career spans decades and reflects his ability to blend various styles and deliver a rich auditory experience.
