George Eliot & Cara Bray - A Victorian Friendship

Did you know that one of the key inspirations behind Coventry's most famous literary figure came from a remarkable local woman?
Cara Bray was a close friend and confidante of novelist George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans). Born into the influential Bray family, Cara was part of an intellectual circle that profoundly shaped Eliot's thinking, writing, and worldview.
Unbelievably in the 1840s, Coventry became a centre of radical ideas, philosophy, and debate, with the Bray family at its heart. Through her friendship with Cara and the wider Bray circle, George Eliot was introduced to new ways of thinking that would later influence some of the greatest novels in English literature.
This free event taking place at the Anglican Chapel (London Road Cemetery) in Coventry explores their Victorian friendship with a new piece of theatre from the Red River Theatre Company.
Tickets are free but pre-booking is essential.
