About this Event
The culminating experience of Geology of the Blue Ridge, this field experience takes participants across the Asheville Basin to examine the Precambrian metamorphic rocks underlying this region. At each site the group will pause to examine the rocks that are particular to the site and consider the geologic forces, including erosion, that sculpted the landscape. Participants will learn how geologists can use this information to infer rock origin and history during mountain building.
Anton DuMars, a resident of Black Mountain, NC, is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston. His geological interests include fluvial, deltaic, and coastal processes. He spends his spare time building (simple) furniture, on a hiking trail, or aboard his sailboat.
