Conservation Conversations #3Geologic Landforms that Form the Terrain We Live and Play On: From Anchorage to the Mat-Su
Presentation will start at 6pm. Arrive early to grab a beverage and a seat!
Glaciers, rivers, wind, and the ocean have shaped the stage that we live and play on and deposited the materials that support our buildings, roads, and trails. When was the last time you rode a sinuous trail through the woods and thought of the glacial processes that formed it? Join us on a tour of conserved spaces and to learn how they were formed and how events like earthquakes, river erosion, and wave actions continue to shape the landscape.
Our speaker is a local geologist Chad Hults, who has 25 years of experience working on mapping Alaska’s complex geology, cleaning up legacy mines, assessing geohazards, and monitoring glacier change. Prior to moving to Alaska, he studied environmental engineering geology and geophysics at Western Washington University. He specializes in mapping and remote sensing for mapping landscape changes, interpreting geologic history, and understanding the interactions between geology and biology. He is an avid mountain and fat biker, hiker, packrafter, skier, and sailor; and he often plans holidays to explore interesting geology.
