Afro-Peruvian, Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Andalusian rhythms meet Latin Jazz.Artists include saxophonist/composer Gai Bryant (Elio Villafranca, Jim McNeely), Peruvian Australian percussionists Giorgio Rojas (Burn the Floor, Ursula Yovich) and Julio Candela (El Orqueston, Felix Valdelomar), pianist Harry Sutherland (Finer Cuts, Hilary Geddes Quartet) and bassist Cesar Marin (Son Veneno, Sonido).
Following a series of highly successful shows throughout NSW including a recent full house in Bellingen, ALLY journey to the nation’s capital for a very special performance at Smith’s Alternative on Wednesday 3 July. An all star cast of musicians from ARIA-nominated ALLY will dispel all winter chills with a wonderful mix of global bal music drawn from Afro-Peruvian, Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Andalusian traditional rhythms paired with refashioned Monk standards and some brand new originals.
The group draw inspiration from Danilo Perez and Jerry Gonzalez in creating 'Rumba Monk' arrangements that capture the quirkiness of Thelonius Monk's compositions through a different lens by underpinning them with Afro-Latin rhythms. This is balanced with fast-paced Peruvian festejo, the sway of Brazilian maracatu and the groove of a tangos for a night of globe-trotting jazz.
