We are so lucky to have a Masterclass by Geoffrey swindell here at Cardiff Pottery Workshops Foundation.

Geroffrey Swindell, the enigmatic potter, weaves magic with clay, transforming it into otherworldly forms. Some liken his ceramics to washed-up sea creatures—some still pulsing with life, others mere remnants turning slowly to dust. Yet, there’s more to his creations than meets the eye. From a distant galaxy, they emerge—unidentified objects, their origins shrouded in mystery. Are they organic or meticulously constructed? Friendly or harboring malevolence?

Swindell’s artistic journey began as a painter, mastering classic illustrative images before venturing into abstract expressions of emotion through color and texture. When he transitioned to pottery, he carried this fascination with surface qualities. His vessels aren’t mere canvases for glaze; they embody an inseparable relationship between form and surface.

For over five decades, Swindell has been compelled to shape these curious forms. Often vases, sometimes nameless, they evoke joy, despair, and camaraderie. His work transcends borders, gracing international exhibitions and publications. Solo shows in London and New York have celebrated his mastery. Examples of his art reside in over forty-five museums and public collections worldwide, including the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum in London . ?✨​
