He formerly served on the Board of Trustees of AGP. He is also a member of the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) and serves on the Deep Foundations for Landslides/Slopes Stabilization committee. He was selected as the Outstanding Oklahoma Geotechnical Engineer for 2016-2017. Dr. Gregory has been involved in more than 250 major slope stability and retaining wall projects, including numerous large earthfill dams, over a multi-state area of the US and in Australia. He has produced more than 70 technical papers that have been presented and published in conference proceedings and technical journals. Abstract:

The presentation will be interactive and audience participation through questions and comments is highly encouraged. Three “ethical challenges” will be presented/discussed which are likely to be encountered in engineering practice. The three cases are described briefly below.

Reporting/Resolving Ethical Violations by Another Engineer. Engineer A becomes aware of a potential ethics violation by Engineer B. What is the ethical responsibility of Engineer A and how should any action/notification be handled? This will be discussed in relation to both PE Licensing Boards and Engineering Societies.

Reuse of Documents Produced by Another Engineer. Engineer A retains Engineer B to provide specialty engineering services on a specific project. Engineer B produces a report and several technical guide specs for the project. Several years later, Engineer A has a similar project and decides that some of the technical guide specs from the previous project would be applicable to the current project. What are the ethical responsibilities of Engineer A regarding reuse of the guide specs provided by Engineer B for the previous project? Several scenarios will be discussed.

Appropriate Notifications. A local industrial plant owner (Client) contacts Engineer B to set up a meeting to discuss Engineer B providing engineering services on an upcoming project. Engineer B knows that local Engineer A has been providing virtually all similar engineering services for Client for many years. Does Engineer B have an ethical obligation to contact Engineer A about the request from Client? Should Engineer B discuss this with the Client to find out the current situation with Engineer A? Several scenarios will be discussed.
