About this Event
Genetics Matters, one of the FMS flagship public events, is an annual event organised as part of the International Rare Disease Day, to raise awareness of rare diseases and rare disease research in the North East. The event is a combination of lay language presentations and hands-on research tables, and is now in its 10th edition. The event will run 10am-3pm on Saturday the 28th of February at the Great North Museum (Hancock), and refreshments will be provided.
We have an exciting program this year, showcasing genetic research in Newcastle, and covering topics such as rare diseases, rare cancers, tissue engineering, drug repurposing, human development, ethical issues in genetic research, and patient and public involvement in research, amongst others. There will be hands-on experiments, microscopes, real laboratory specimens, short films, enthusiastic scientists and some rather lovely food.
Event program will be provided closer to date.
The registration desk will open at 09:30am and the event will start at 10am.
The event is FREE to attend and lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This event is suitable for ages 12+.
