About this Event
As part of the Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Parallel Exhibition “Between Image and Index,” a special screening program will take place at the 360° LED Immersive Cinema at the Hong Kong Baptist University Visualization Research Centre directed by Prof. Jeffrey Shaw.
Featuring Gerry Li’s immersive work, Generated Memories – Hong Kong, the project invites audiences into a spatial experience where personal and collective memories unfold across time. Using LiDAR scanning, 3D Gaussian Splatting, and XR/VR technologies, Li reconstructs fragments of lived experience while speculating on future possibilities.
Reflecting on nearly a decade of life in Hong Kong, the work captures the transient rhythm of arrival and departure, while considering how personal and collective memories are continuously reshaped through time, lived experience, and social transition.
Within the framework of “Between Image and Index,” the screening explores how images today operate beyond representation, becoming environments through which memory, perception, and narrative are continually produced and reconfigured, while also raising the question of the role technology plays within this process.
The screening will be followed by a sharing session with Gerry Li(Artist of "Between Image and Index") and Lukas Mirocha, PHD(Guest Speaker), moderated by Tong Yang(Curator of "Between Image and Index)".
