About this Event

EARLY ACCESS - Watch the Bay Area premiere of , the award-winning documentary feature about Korean American composer Earl Kim, followed by a live Q&A with the director, Ty Kim. The screening will be presented at the Santa Clara University Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 6:00 PM.

Earl Kim (1920-1998) was born into poverty in Dinuba, California. His journey in music began as a child with piano lessons from a church organist who recognized Earl was a prodigy. Earl went on to study with some of the greatest composers of the modern era including Arnold Schoenberg, Roger Sessions and Ernest Bloch. He ascended to a storied career teaching at UC Berkeley, Princeton, and Harvard.

Earl created an authentic and original musical "voice" in his extensive collaboration with the writer Samuel Beckett who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1969. Earl died at the age of 78 before his time.
