Join genealogy societies and libraries from Western Pennsylvania for help with your research and information about their collections. CLP’s Family & Local History Department and Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society have planned workshops for beginners and experts alike. No registration is required to attend talks and meet with genealogy societies. Talks and exhibits will be located on the library’s second and third floors.
Speakers for the day are:
• 12:30 pm “Resources for Italian Family Research” with Marilyn Holt
• 2:00 pm “Collecting Family Stories: DIY Oral History Tips” with Emily Kubincanek
• 3:00 pm “What’s a Prothonotary? Pennsylvania Courthouse Records” with Elissa Scalise Powell, CG
New exhibitors for 2025 include the Weir Genealogy Room at the Butler Public Library; the Baltzer Meyer Historical Society, based in Greensburg; Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society; Colonial Dames of Allegheny County; and the Donald J. Nicolls History Room & Genealogy at the New Castle Public Library.
Returning exhibitors include the African-American Historical & Genealogical Society, Detre Library & Archives at the Heinz History Center, Davis * Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the Jewish Genealogy Society of Pittsburgh, North Hills Genealogists, Pittsburgh Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Westmoreland County Historical Society, and Mayflower Society.
Brick Wall Sessions give you one-on-one help from a volunteer from a local genealogical society. These in-person sessions are not for finding living relatives, but they can help with breaking through a brick wall several generations back.
