Join us in the beautiful Richardson Building for a Genealogy Club Presents: Show and Tell ~ Historic Handwriting with Graeme Marsden. Learn about different old handwriting styles that will help you decipher documents and letters in your own genealogical research. You'll handle actual 200-year-old parchment deeds and other interesting artefacts.
About Graeme
Born in England, Graeme has called Quincy home for over 25 years.
He is a costumed reenactor who has played many characters, including Ben Franklin and John Adams (in Quincy parades). After retirement he worked at the Old State House, portraying historical characters such as James Otis, Sr. and town registrar, Mr. Robert Love. He has participated for over 30 years in historical reenactments including the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party and The Battles at Lexington and Concord.
He is a speaker on historical topics such as “Early Masonic History in Boston,” “The Redcoat Soldier,” “Medical Surgery in the 18c,” “Colonial Crime and Punishment,” “Boston's Poor Relief in the 18.” and “Heraldry.”
In London he studied heraldic painting under Herald Painter Norman Manwaring, and Palaeography at London University under heraldic writer Julian Franklyn.
He was formerly a Marketing Communications Manager for several US companies, and previously in London he was a Science Technician at Imperial College of Science & Technology.
The Genealogy Club is hosted by The Archives and Special Collections Department. Sessions are free and open to all, and may feature professional guest speakers, instructional, and various genealogical topics. It is not necessary to attend all sessions to participate.
