We are inviting you to a new seminar about "Gender and Sexual Diversity" with a gestalt therapist and trainer Marten Bos from the Netherlands. How do work in gestalt therapy room about gender and sexual diversity, LGBTQ+ topics and gender identity. The workshop is for gestalt therapists and students, psychologists, psychiatrists, coaching specialist, social workers or counsellors.
When talking about the topics of ‘Sexual and Gender Diversity’ it is useful to see it in a broader picture. From a gestalt perspective we have to be aware of the influences in the relational, situational, social, historical, regional, political, religious, etc. field. We need to see in what way we, the client, the relation, the situation are influencing the question, the ‘problem’. How language, attitude, norms and values of the field are influencing the therapeutic relation, here and now.
More and more we see nowadays new perspectives and a movement towards less binary thoughts about Gender and Sexual Orientation. Even though, if we really look back in history, it is not that new at all. Sexuality and Gender have been quite an instrument in organizing, conditioning the structures in our societies, in politics, in religion. The policy of producing and reproducing needed a strong distinguished binary between men and women and with that ‘appropriate masculine and feminine behaviour’. In addition, there came a strict separation between gay and straight, with normalisation of straight and discrimination, disapproval, prohibition and punishment of gay (lesbian, homo-, bi-,
pan sexual, etc.).
In this training we will be working from a field perspective to these topics, inspired by the theory of Intersectionality, a kind of holistic, situational vision that has a lot of similarities with the holistic field
theory of gestalt. We will work with field awareness, experiments, theory, cases brought by participants, to grow awareness and to have some handles to help us in working with our clients on this topic.
The workshop will be held in English, with translation into Lithuanian if needed.
