Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences invites girls in grades 4-7 to Girls Exploring Medicine & Science, a FREE morning event designed to inspire students to consider careers in health care and science and to expose them to fascinating aspects of these careers. Registration required to attend this event.Girls will experience a variety of engaging, hands-on sessions led by DMU students and community partners:
ANATOMY // See how things like smoking can hurt our lungs and understand how a brain works.
DERMATOLOGY // Make and take home products for healthy skin.
PODIATRY // We’ll look at the structure of the foot and participate in a casting activity.
PHYSICAL THERAPY // Get moving and see how the body system responds.
MICROBIOLOGY // Use a microscope and get a close look at the bacteria that cause common illnesses.
FIRST AID // Learn how to care for yourself or others if you’re hurt and assemble a first aid kit to take home.
SURGERY // Learn how to scrub in for surgery and put on surgical gowns and gloves in our mock operating room.

7:30-8 a.m. Drop off period and breakfast
8:00-11:15 a.m. Girls rotate through exciting stations in small groups
11:15 a.m. Pick up
