Gem City Swing has opened the doors (and the dance floor) to swing dancers of all skill levels with lessons and social dancing!
7:00 pm - Lessons: Lindy Hop Fundamentals + Next Steps
8-9:30 pm - Social Dance
Lindy Hop Fundamentals: $10 (includes social dance entry)
Content Focus: August is the second month of our two-month beginner series!
Whether you are brand new to Lindy Hop, or you've taken some classes and want to solidify your basics, fundamentals is for you! Each week's content is designed to give brand new students an approachable starting point with basic footwork, connection, and moves. The goal is to get you social dancing comfortably as quickly as possible!
Lindy Hop Next Steps: $10 (includes social dance entry)
Content Focus: "Lindy Hoppers Learn ________"; a grab bag month that will teach you how to incorporate other dance styles into your Lindy Hop! Dance styles in order by week: St. Louis Shag, Solo Jazz, Balboa, Blues.
Because Next Steps will expect students to have solid basics, each month-long series will be a progressive deep dive into a specific topic. This is NOT a beginner class; attendees should be familiar with 6- and 8-count footwork and basic moves.
Social Dance:
Our social dance is a great opportunity to practice what you’ve just learned in the lessons, explore new music, and meet new friends! Throughout the night we have a snowball dance (an introductory activity that gets everyone dancing), announcements about other dancing opportunities in the area, the Shim Sham choreo, and birthday jams (monthly birthday celebrations) – make sure to stick around! If you are planning to skip the lessons and only attend the social dance, entry is $5.
Please note that all participants engage in dance at Gem City Swing at their own risk.
