About this Event
Overview:
This course is designed with beginning students in mind, as well as all learning styles. The Gelli Plate printing method is a very simple intro into printmaking and can be used on its own or combined with other methods like collage!
Even if you are an experienced printmaker, artist or designer, learning a new technique, or just being able to make textures without thinking and planning ahead too much can be extremely valuable. This course is designed as an introduction to the process of Gelli Plate Printing as well as how to use the prints after they are created.
Schedule:
1. A video tutorial will be provided as an introduction into the process and materials of Gelli Plate Printing. This is available on our website and registrants will receive their link after purchasing the course. This will enable students to prepare for what they will be doing and get an idea of the imagery that is possible with this method.
2. During our in-person class time, the instructor will cover the basic materials and techniques for Gelli Plate Printing, how to use stencils, and mix colors to achieve desirable results through lecture and demonstration.
3. Students will then work on creating their own textural prints during the class using water based non-toxic media.
4. After our prints have dried, the instructor will lead students in ways to use the resulting imagery in collage as well as other possibilities. Experimentation will be stressed. If you have prints that you would like to bring in to add your textures to, please feel free to do so!
Materials the studio provides:
The School of Visual Philosophy will provide the Gelli Plates, stencils, paper, ink and brayers to use during the workshop. You will be able to take your prints and resulting collages home with you.
