Combine the textural effects of Gelli Plate Printing with Monotype Printmaking in this free and loose workshop with Dana Harris Seeger
About this Event

Overview:

Want to learn printmaking but feel a little intimidated? The Gelli Plate printing method is a very simple intro into printmaking and can be used on its own or combined with other methods like Monotype! By using stencils, paint brushes, brayers and other mark making implements, students will create images using two different monoprinting methods: Gelli Plate and Monotype. Monotype uses an acrylic plate rolled through a press to transfer an image painted on the surface to a piece of paper. Gelli printing uses a flexible gelatin plate burnished by hand to transfer ink or paint to paper. Combine these and you have so many image making possibilities!

This is a great class for both beginners or experienced artists because there's always something new to learn and try with these methods. Students will create multiple colored images using many layers of ink and paint.

Schedule:

1. The instructor will cover basic techniques for Gelli Plate Printing, how to use stencils, and mix colors to achieve desirable results through lecture and demonstration. Students will create a series of Gelli Prints

2. The instructor will cover monotype printmaking and how to add, subtract and layer ink onto an acrylic plate for multi-colored images. Students will experiment using the press.

3. After lunch, students will continue working on their own textural prints

Materials the studio provides:

The School of Visual Philosophy will provide all the necessary materials for students to complete the two types of prints. Aprons are provided.
