GEIC Open Labs Days | Graphene Innovation for Industry
About this Event
Discover what’s possible in two hours.
The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) is where graphene and 2D materials move from research into real-world applications.
This September, we’re opening our application labs to industry for a focused two-hour morning session.
From 10am-12pm, you’ll step inside the GEIC, see the equipment in action and meet the specialists who work with these technologies every day.
This isn’t a lecture theatre and a slide deck.
You’ll walk through the application labs, see the facilities where materials move towards formulation, prototyping and production, and have the opportunity to talk directly with our specialists about your materials or manufacturing challenge.
Whether you already know graphene or 2D materials could have a role in your product, or you’re simply curious about what they could do, Open Labs is a chance to explore what’s possible - with no cost and no commitment.
What happens during the morning?
🔬 Tour the application labs
See our facilities for coatings, composites, membranes, printed electronics, deposition and integration, materials characterisation and more - in the environment where the work actually happens.
💬 Talk to materials specialists
Meet the engineers, scientists and technical specialists who run the equipment and discuss the challenge you’re trying to solve.
⚙️ Explore how we work with companies
Find out how GEIC can support businesses through scoping projects, failure analysis, prototyping, production readiness and more.
🏭 Discover the routes into GEIC
Learn about options including rental lab space, membership and collaborative development.
🤝 Connect with other innovators
Meet other manufacturers, technology developers and innovators working through similar materials and product challenges.
Who should attend?
Open Labs is designed for people inside companies who own a materials challenge, technical problem or product roadmap.
You’ll get the most from the morning if you work in:
- R&D, materials and product development - engineers, chemists, scientists and technical leads
- Manufacturing, process and production engineering
- Innovation, technology scouting and NPD
- Technical leadership - Technical Directors, CTOs and founders of SMEs and scale-ups
Sectors we work with
Coatings · Composites · Construction · Deposition & Integration · Energy · Membranes · Printed Electronics · Biomaterials
If your sector isn’t listed, come anyway. Graphene and 2D materials can have applications in places we don’t always expect.
Just tell us what you’re working on when you register.
Who is it for?
Open Labs is an industry-only event. Places are reserved for people attending on behalf of a company or organisation.
It is not a public open day, student careers event, recruitment event or sales event.
If you’re a student or an individual interested in graphene and 2D materials, email [email protected] and our team can point you towards the right event or programme.
What to expect
Expect real conversations and honest answers — including an honest answer if graphene or 2D materials isn’t the right solution for your application.
The morning is designed to give you a clearer understanding of:
- What GEIC can offer
- Whether our facilities could be relevant to your challenge
- What working with GEIC could look like
- What your potential next step could be
No project commitment. No sales pitch. Free to attend.
Please wear flat, closed-toe shoes. PPE will be provided where required.
Choose your morning
There are two dates to choose from, with the same programme running on both mornings.
📅 Friday 18 September 2026
⏰ 10:00–12:00
📅 Friday 25 September 2026
⏰ 10:00–12:00
Choose whichever morning works best for your diary.
Lab tours will run in small groups, so places are limited. Please register each person attending so we can plan the groups appropriately.
How to register
1. Choose your preferred morning
Select either Friday 18 September or Friday 25 September.
2. Complete the registration form
We’ll ask for your company, role and a little information about what you’d like to get out of the morning.
3. We’ll confirm your place
A member of the GEIC team will be in touch shortly after registration.
We keep the groups small deliberately, so there is time for meaningful conversations and questions. Knowing a little about your challenge in advance also helps us make sure you meet the most relevant specialists during your visit.
Questions before you register?
Email [email protected] and our team will be happy to help.
Free to attend. Industry only. Places are limited.
Two hours at GEIC could be enough to turn “worth looking at” into a much clearer next step.
