Gay for Reseach!

Overview:

Join us to celebrate excellent and essential research by and for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks at SFU!

Wednesday, June 17th, 3-6PM, on the SFU Burnaby campus (specific event location details will be provided upon registration)

SFSS Out on Campus and SFU Library are thrilled to host the inaugural "Gay for Research" event: a showcase of research currently being conducted at Simon Fraser University (SFU) by members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and/or about 2SLGBTQIA+ topics! The event will feature 4 speakers, including Undergraduate, Master's, Phd, and Faculty level researchers.

After the formal speaking program, there will be an opportunity to connect as a community and engage with invited exhibitors, with light refreshments. The featured exhibitors include:

• The SFU Trans Equity Pod, who will be launching a community-created zine on the theme of "impossible lives"
• Special Collections and Rare Books, who will showcase 2SLGBTQIA+ materials in their holdings
• The SFU Office of Research and International, who will showcase research grants and support opportunities
• Out On Campus, who will showcase their work for 2SLGBTQIA+ students at SFU

We invite everyone who cares about research and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, everyone who is interested in learning more about current research projects at SFU, and everyone who is curious how they might start or advance their research pathways!

The optional dress code is “The spectrum of brilliance” - choose a favourite colour, shape, texture, etc. to showcase with your outfit!

This event is in-person only. We understand that this might be a barrier for participants - the organizing team hopes to be able to offer virtual or hybrid participation options in the future as our capacity increases.
