The Gaumont Palace Cinema opened on 7th September 1931 with Ralph Lynn in “Chance of a Night Time”. It was a project of the Albany Ward Circuit, a division of Gaumont British Theatres. This is possibly one of the most unique historic cinema buildings in the United Kingdom, perhaps the World!
The facade and outer foyer is actually a Grade I Listed building, built as Ye Halle of John Halle, a Tudor Gothic style building which was originally built as the home of a 15th Century wool merchant around 1470. It received a new Mock Tudor style facade, designed by Pugin in 1834. Inside the foyer is all genuine from the pre-Tudor period and has original Oak beams in the ceiling with shields and swords hanging on the walls.
The auditorium (built in 1931) is in a Tudor style, with seating for 1,125 in the stalls and 550 in the circle. There were over 40 framed canvas murals by artist Frank Barnes representing hanging tapestries, hanging on the side-walls and other walls in the building.
In 1984 the rest of the building was given grade II listed status which helped save it from demolition later on.
We will meet at the venue from 10.30pm and your investigation will begin at 11.15pm (after closing) to conclude at 3am. Our experienced and knowledgeable team will talk you through the night alongside the manager who hosts historic tours of the venue and can answer all the questions you have about the building. We can verify evidence as we go through the night thanks to the manager's knowledge, and, using equipment and experiments we will try and capture proof of the afterlife. While we can't guarantee activity on the night we will do everything we can to encourage it and capture what we encounter.
We will provide refreshments throughout the evening but you are welcome to bring a different snack with you.
There is a limited number of tickets to this event due to the size of the venue and rules of the building

We do not issue physical tickets, please accept your booking confirmation email through paypal as proof of purchase. Your name will be added to the guest list on the door and a reminder email will be sent shortly before the event.
This is a venue which is challenging for those with mobility issues.
If you are pregnant or become pregnant before the event, please let the team know so we are able to complete a risk assessment and ensure we have the correct first aiders on site.
