Free textiles project for self-identifying female survivors aged 18+, hosted at Wild & Kind Studios and Glasgow Women’s Library
About this Event

Who can participate?

Gathering Stitch is open to self-identifying female survivors aged 18+, including cis women, trans women and non-binary survivors who are comfortable in an environment that centres women’s experience. No previous arts experience is required. An experienced support worker* will be present throughout all sessions, and travel and childcare reimbursement are available.

What will happen?

In this project, participants will develop their textile and design skills; learn about textile production techniques; engage with a history of women’s resistance through textile; and have the opportunity to exhibit a collaborative piece of textile art at Glasgow Women’s Library.

In sessions 1-4 the team at Wild and Kind Studios will lead us in workshops that focus on different textile and design skills: collage, hand-embroidery, lino-cutting and quilting. In session 5-7 we will be joined by artist Paria M. Goodarzi to begin creating work for the exhibition. In a day-long session after these workshops have concluded, participants will be able to learn about the production equipment and processes at Wild and Kind Studios and the final exhibition piece will be created. We will also be treated to an archive visit at Glasgow Women’s Library, where we will learn about ways that women have used textiles to protest, resist, and build community throughout history. Material from this archive will be exhibited alongside the project’s creative work.

Gathering Stitch is a partnership between the Survivor Arts Community, Wild and Kind Studios and Glasgow Women’s Library. It has been funded by the Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector.
