Plants for free: Learn propagation techniques
Want to learn how to get new plants without spending a penny?! Come and spend the morning touring our gardens, trying out different propagation techniques. Once you have mastered this skill, you will be able to produce all manner of herbs, fruits, and ornamental plants easily throughout the year.
- Learn how we can reproduce plants by observing nature in action.
- Try out a variety of different techniques, such as stem cuttings, layering and dividing.
- Understand the principles behind propagation techniques so you never fail.
- Take cuttings of your favourites home with you.
Facilitated by Sam from STAA, this workshop takes place on the beautiful Nursery Garden at St Ann's Allotments.
Workshop details
Capacity: The maximum group size will be 10 people.
Tickets: The ticket price includes materials, and all tools will be provided.
Facilities: A compost toilet is available at the Nursery with hand sanitizer for hand washing.
Clothing: Please dress for the weather, and wear comfortable foot wear. The garden is a 5-minute walk from the entrance to the allotments.
Parking: There is plenty of free roadside parking along Ransom Road.

About Sam from STAA
Sam works on our Nursery and Heritage Display gardens and has many years experience growing fruit and vegetables as well as working in a cut flower garden.

About the Nursery
This workshop will take place on our Nursery Garden, a unique and accessible garden for everyone to learn about growing food. It is maintained by volunteers and community groups, and our fresh produce is directed back to local food banks and community cafes.
There is a large commercial-scale glasshouse, and at the top of a classroom with beautiful views over the allotments.
St Ann’s Allotments are Grade 2* Listed by Historic England, and designated an Area of Importance for Nature Conservation. It is the oldest and largest are of Victorian detached town gardens in the UK, with over 700-years of history, 500 gardens, and 32 miles of hedgerow.

This event is organised by STAA, a small charity that manages a number of highly regarded projects across 30+ plots at St Ann's Allotments that provide community benefit and offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities.
