Garden Escapees: Mapping Introduced Horticultural Plants (Guided Walk)
Schedule
Sun Apr 26 2026 at 05:00 pm to 07:00 pm
UTC-04:00Location
Kilally Meadows ESA | London, ON
About this Event
London's Environmentally Significant Areas (ESAs) face a variety of pressures as a result of human activities, including the introduction of non-native species that spread into wild areas from surrounding properties. This walk will focus on identifying non-native plants that have been introduced to Kilally Meadows ESA. Mapping the locations of unwanted aggressive plants before they spread can help to support targeting management approaches such as removal and supplemental planting of native species. On our walk, we will learn how to identify invasive plants based on key characteristics, and how to document their occurrence to produce useful data.
Please download iNaturalist and create your free account in advance. If you would like help getting started with iNaturalist then arrive 15 minutes early and an iNaturalist Ambassador will be there to teach you how to use the app to make observations.
We will meet at the entrance to Killaly Meadows near 51 Edgevalley Rd. Parking is available on the side of the street.
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. This hike will be on uneven terrain and is not wheelchair accessible.
