We are pleased to invite you to the opening of our fifth GAP Window exhibition, Synaptic Loops, featuring the embroidered works of artist Lyuba Sautina. Opening on 7 January 2026, this exhibition marks a quiet and reflective beginning to the new year at the GAP Window.About the Exhibition
Synaptic Loops is a series of textile works in which motifs inspired by neural connections are transformed into ornamental forms. Rather than reproducing scientific diagrams, the embroideries are guided by intuitive gestures, allowing lines reminiscent of nerve impulses and neuronal branching to form intricate decorative structures. These compositions resemble metaphorical maps of inner space, suggesting processes of thought, memory, and connection.
The works are created using embroidery on fabric with metallic threads, beads, and sequins. As light shifts throughout the day and night, the reflective materials subtly change, echoing the dynamic nature of the mind and inviting close and thoughtful viewing.
About the Artist
Lyuba Sautina was born in Siberia and is currently based in Espoo. Her artistic practice explores the relationship between traditional culture and contemporary context, with a particular focus on representations of motherhood and childhood in culture and art. She examines these themes as fragile constructs that intertwine natural and cultural elements.
Sautina works with methods that express human identity through cultural codes, often drawing attention to everyday practices and gestures that lose meaning through repetition. By removing them from their familiar context, she transforms them into carriers of new meaning or pushes them toward absurdity.
Her work is deeply rooted in traditional handicraft techniques such as gold embroidery, pearl embroidery, and hand weaving. Alongside textile practices, she also works with video, audio, performance, and textile objects, integrating established traditions into contemporary artistic frameworks.

Presented in the GAP Window, Synaptic Loops transforms public space into a place for contemplation and quiet engagement. The exhibition invites passersby to pause and consider the invisible systems that shape thought, identity, and human connection, right in the heart of the city.
