An Afternoon of Real Stories, Mentorship & Inspiration

What does it really take to succeed as a student-athlete-and build a future beyond the game?

Game Plan for Success: From the Field to the Future brings middle and high school student-athletes together with D1 female student-athletes from San José State University for an afternoon of honest stories, mentorship, practical guidance, and connection.

Student-athletes will hear directly from women who are balancing college athletics, academics, leadership, pressure, setbacks, and their own goals for the future.

This isn't about perfect success stories.

It's about the real journey-what it takes to stay focused, overcome challenges, believe in yourself, and build a future both on and beyond the field.

Meet D1 Female Student-Athletes

Through our partnership with San José State University’s Beyond Sparta, the event will feature D1 female student-athletes representing:

  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Track & Field
  • Women's Water Polo

Students will have the opportunity to hear their stories, ask questions, and connect directly with college athletes who have navigated many of the same challenges they are facing today.

Why This Matters

For many young athletes, sports are a huge part of their identity and their dreams.

But the path isn't always easy.

Academic pressure, eligibility requirements, injuries, competition, self-doubt, and uncertainty about the future can all affect a student-athlete's journey.

Sometimes what makes the biggest difference is hearing from someone who has been there.

When young athletes see women who started where they are now—and hear the real stories behind their success - it can build something more powerful than motivation.

It can build belief, confidence, and a vision for what's possible.

And when college athletes step into leadership and mentorship, they have the opportunity to give back while developing skills that will serve them long after their playing careers.

From Sports to Education to Career Success

Game Plan for Success is the beginning of a larger vision.

BATA and its partners are working toward a long-term Student-Athlete Leadership & Career Fellowship that will connect college athletes, younger student-athletes, mentors, educators, and community and corporate partners.

The goal is to create stronger pathways from:

Sports → Education → Leadership → Career Success

This first event is an opportunity to begin building that community.

Who Should Attend
  • Middle and high school student-athletes, grades 5–12
  • Young women interested in college athletics
  • Parents and families of student-athletes
  • Coaches and athletic staff
  • Educators and counselors
  • Youth-serving and community organizations
  • College student-athletes and mentors
  • Corporate and community partners interested in supporting youth leadership

A Special Focus on Female Student-Athletes

This first Game Plan for Success event will center the experiences and leadership of D1 female student-athletes.

We believe young women deserve opportunities to see themselves represented in leadership, athletics, education, and future careers - and to build relationships with women who can serve as mentors and role models.

By bringing together athletes from softball, volleyball, basketball, track & field, and women's water polo, we hope to create meaningful connections across sports and generations.
