About this Event
The History of Black Writing at University of Kansas and the Detroit Public Library present a day-long interactive workshop specifically for teens (ages 13 - 18)to discover the components of game development. Our presenter will be Dr. Kishonna Gray. Dr. Gray is an author, gamer, and Professor of Racial Justice and Technology at the University of Michigan.
This hands-on experience will break down the different parts of what goes into making a game (avatar customization, world building, community) and put people back in the process. This is a core aspect of CHI (computer human interaction that engineers and computer scientists are thinking more about as opposed to just all tech).
Topics discussed include: developing your own avatar, the game of life, collaborative peer-learning, and TikTok creation.
Lunch will be provided for registered attendees.
While this interactive workshop will be geared towards teens, parents and caregivers are also welcome to attend!
