Margalla Trail Runners is going to organize the first-ever exciting, thrilling, and challenging, 60km and 20k race, on the mountains of Galiyat. The UTMB® World Series Qualifier races are organized by @margallatrailrunners first time in the history of Pakistan. It will the longest-distance 60km running race on the most beautiful and scenic trails of Galiyat, Pakistan.
A UTMB® World Series Qualifier is a qualifying race in the 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M categories which contributes towards every Finishers UTMB® Index and gives privileged access to the UTMB® World Series Events*. The privileged access corresponds to:
• Exclusive pre-sales period
• Early bird prices secure
• Access to races on a first come first served basis
*Excluding sold-out races where a draw will be organized. In the event of a draw, subscriptions will be exclusive to UTMB® Index holders.
Runners will be qualified or they have to improve their Performance Index via participating in 20K, 50K, 100K, 100M UTMB World Series Qualifier Events/Races on the following formula;
It is based on the time taken to run the distance, elevation, and overall position in the participating UTMB World Series Qualifier event/Race.
The faster athletes run the better their Performance Index.
GMT under the banner of Margalla Trail Runners has become the family member of UTMB® Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc. GMT will be an annual event of UTMB® World Series Qualifier.
GMT stands for Galiyat Mountain Trail. The GMT trails are connected/linked to Galiyat. The trails start from Thandiyani to Khaira Gali, Pakistan. Galiyat Mountains are part of the Himalayan foothills.
Galiyat Mountain Trails are the most beautiful, scenic, and soft dirt trails and one of the best routes for trail and hill running. The trails are in Galiyat, Abbottabad District of KPK, Pakistan. GMT is a sequence of multiple trails of the Galiyat Mountains.

Route Details: Thandiyani Top (Start Point) → Bern Gali → Dagri Bangla → Kunna Meadows → Miranjani Top → Nathia Gali → Lalazar Park → Mushkpuri top → Dunga Gali → Ayubia Pipeline Trek → Pipeline Trek of Kuza & Changla Gali Trek → Khaira Gali (Finishline).

Obligatory Running Gear for 60k Race
Running bag/pack to carry obligatory equipment throughout the race.
Mobile/cell phone (organization’s security number saved), keep the phone turned on, and make sure the phone is fully charged at the start of the race.
Personal cup/beaker 15cl minimum in addition to bottles or flasks.
Bottles, flasks, or water bladder that holds a minimum of 1 liter of liquid.
Headlamp/torch in good working order.
Whistle+
Self-adhesive elasticated bandage which can serve as a bandage or strapping
Food reserve - Recommendation: 800kcal (2 gels + 2 energising bars each of 65g)
Jacket with a hood that will withstand bad weather in the mountains and made with a waterproof and breathable membrane.
It is the runner's responsibility to judge if their jacket is both winds- and waterproof.
Hat/Cap or bandana
Can be a windproof jacket, but it does not replace the obligatory waterproof jacket and vice versa.
Extra clothes, socks, full sleeve or T-shirt, sunglasses
Sleeping bag
Hydration and Food Supplies: You must have to carry a running vest or 5 to 10 litter running vest with water and food (1 to 2 water, dates, chocolates, banana, ORS, etc.). Participants must carry food supplies and put them into the vehicle or can refuel from Tuck Shops at Nathia Gali, Dunga Gali, and Ayubia at their choice and requirement.
Participants must carry their CNIC/Passport.
RACE TRAVEL PLAN FOR 60K RACE PARTICIPANTS
We’ll leave Saturday 23rd of July 2022 for Thandiyani. The race participants will be given the facility of transportation from Islamabad to Thandiyani, dinner, a night stay in camps at Thandiyani, and breakfast in the morning. Participants must bring their sleeping bags. Those who haven’t sleeping bags have to inform, please, us timely. We’ll arrange accordingly. Participants will stay in camps will on sharing basis. Although we appreciate participants who bring their own camps.
• Personal crew, support staff, and pacers are permitted for the 50k race.
• Those who will bring personal crew/support staff or pacers will be charged 80% of the race fee.
• Participants have to inform 2 weeks before race day about crew/support staff or pacers.
• Otherwise it wouldn’t be the responsibility of organizers and participants have to do own arrangements for crew/support staff or pacers accordingly.

The Trails of Galliyat Mountains are a combination of multiple trails.
1. Thandiyani to Bern Gali trek
2. Bern Gali to Dagri Bangla trek
3. Dagri Bangla to Kunna Meadows
4. Kunna Meadows to Miranjani Top
5. Miranjani downhill to Miranjani base
6. Miranjani base to Lalazar Park (1.5 Road section)
7. Lalazar Park trek to Mushkpuri Top
8. Mushkpuri downhill via Dunga Gali
9. Dunga Gali to Ayubia Pipeline trek
10. Ayubia to Khaira Gali Changla Gali, Kuza Gali Pipeline Trek
MTR had set certain rules to complete the Ultra-Trails of Galliyat Mountains (UTMG) RULES.
Trails of Galliyat Mountains (all mentioned treks) have to attempt in a single continuous effort within a time limit of 15 hours. These trails can be completed starting from the Khaira Gali to Thandiyani or Thandiyani to Khaira Gali in one continuous effort in less than 15 hours to be eligible to be a member of the UTMG Club.
The requirement for UTMG Register Inclusion:
1. The UTMG (Ultra Trails of Galliyat Mountains) consists of multiple (mentioned trails) Trails.
2. You can start from Khaira Gali or Thandiyani.
3. If you are starting from Khaira Gali then finish at Thandiyani or if you are starting from Thandiyani then finish at Khaira Gali.
4. You cannot skip the Mushkpuri top, Miranjani top, and Kunna Meadows.
5. Time limit to complete the UTMG is 15 hours. It's the total/elapsed time and not the moving time. (Mark your Activity as Race)

Margalla Trail Runners (MTR) is a hill, trail & mountain running club based in Islamabad, Pakistan. The club's objective is to promote hill, trail & mountain running in Pakistan.
MTR hill/trail running events are open to everyone and anyone can join events.
Make sure you're fit enough to run on flat terrain or hills/mountains/trails continuously for at least 1 to 2 hours and long for ultra-trail runs at an easy good pace. For those who want to join and will participate in the event, the sole purpose is to run and become a strong long-distance hill/mountain/trail runner.
Participation in the event is at the athlete’s discretion; therefore, the MTR Club is not responsible for the participants' actions.
I understand that competing in this event may involve running and walking on wilderness trails with rocks, roots, stream crossings, and up and down steep terrain. The hazards may include but are not limited to; challenging terrain, rocks, roots, adjacent streams, rivers, motor vehicle traffic, slippery surfaces, loose rocks, soft sand, weather conditions, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, actions of spectators, other competitors, general public and the event organizers personnel.

MTR is a non-registered body and cannot be held liable for anything including but not limited to any loss, theft, damage, or injury to property or persons whether arising in contract, negligence, equity, or otherwise.
Additionally, all athletes should use due care under the circumstances to comply with all rules, regulations, statutes, and laws of Pakistan.
