Phung Huynh is a Los Angeles-based artist and educator whose work explores how cultural ideas are “imported, disassembled, and then reconstructed” within the American landscape.
During this gallery talk with the artist, Huynh will discuss how her artworks investigate cultural identity from a “kaleidoscopic perspective," challenging beauty standards and exploring the complexities of assimilation. She will share her own experience as an Asian immigrant and recontextualize Asian iconography within the fabric of American popular culture.
This talk is presented in tandem with "Vault Show: New Acquisitions," an exhibition featuring several works by Huynh that recently joined the UAMA permanent collection. The talk will be followed by a brief Q&A.
