Gallery of Sound

The BlackBox Ensemble presents "Gallery of Sound," a program of solo and small ensemble pieces held at RPM Underground, a Midtown bar and record store. Each solo piece will be performed in one of RPM's private rooms, creating an intimate connection between the performer and audience. Solo performances will be ongoing throughout the evening, with periodic small ensemble pieces performed in the main event space. Audience members will be free to move through the gallery at their own pace, experiencing the concert as if it were an art gallery. Throughout it all, we'll have fixed sound installations, bar service, and a permanent improvisation room, where audience members can gather with their own instruments or voices for spontaneous music making with the performers and other attendees. After a year marked by isolation and social distancing, this performance will reflect on the profundity of human connection by creating intimate and communal musical experiences.
