Spark Central is honored to present our gallery grand opening exhibition featuring Spokane-based artist Tracy Poindexter-Canton.Through collage, bold color, and portraiture, Poindexter-Canton examines Black American identity by blending literary imagery with visual art. Drawing from her background in English and Creative Writing from Seattle University, and a master’s degree in Communications and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, her work weaves narrative and image into layered, expressive compositions.
Working primarily in mixed media, she embraces the freedom of the form:
“There is no wrong or right way to create something in this medium. It’s like a gate has been unlatched, allowing my imagination and visual voice to gallop wildly across the meadow.”
As a largely self-taught professional artist guided by intuition, she creates fearlessly — translating the colorful imagery, memories, and emotions radiating from her head, heart, and soul into work that invites viewers into conversation and reflection. Poindexter-Canton has exhibited across Washington State and the West Coast, including Spokane, Olympia, Pullman, Richland, Seattle, Las Vegas, and internationally through online galleries in California and Germany.
Join us as we celebrate this powerful opening and the launch of Spark Central’s gallery space — an evening of art, community, and storytelling.
