About this Event
Come and join the gals of for an afternoon writing session, rain or shine, at Julie’s Coffee + Tea Garden in Alameda. Because we meet in a quaint little public place (and not inside the underground palace Elon Musk is probably building as a bunker) this event is lovingly capped at 11 people :)
In WWTTL, we lean on each other through the hard times and the good. All women are welcome: we come as we are. Our passion for writing and our openness toward others’ experiences characterize the group. Some of us actively publish our writing, and others keep their efforts close to the chest - whatever your preference or experience level, we’d love to write with you.
The Vibes:
We are fiction writers, poets, diarists, political essayists, personal confessionistas, lovers and haters of the modern world and its kaleidoscopic pathways, and friends to one another. While we often discuss current events and share our perspectives, the core aim of the group is to make time to integrate our own personal dramas and life experiences - from the complexities of a parent’s death to the nuances of living through medical mysteries, or from the panic of being broke (again) to the satisfaction of facing off with a tyrannical boss. In a world of increasingly intelligent robots, we like to hold this space as a place to preserve our human messiness, struggle and search for beauty.
The Structure:
This session’s facilitator will be Eileen (usually it’s Gretchen but we switch off sometimes!). Typically we will gab for 20-30 minutes (including introductions of any newbies), write for 20-30 minutes (or more), then have a round of sharing of what we wrote (this part is optional, not obligatory). Feedback is welcome and sharers get to choose what type of feedback would be most beneficial for them to hear at each session.
The Cost:
Free. Optional: bring $5-$10 to buy a treat at the cafe. We like to support Julie’s!
