About the Poets
Gabrielle Bates is the author of Judas Goat (Tin House, 2023), an NPR Best Book of 2023, New York Times Book Review Critics Pick, and finalist for the Washington State Book Award in Poetry. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, she currently lives in Seattle, where she works for Open Books: A Poem Emporium, co-hosts the podcast The Poet Salon, and serves periodically as visiting faculty for the University of Washington Rome Center and Tin House Writers’ Workshops. Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, Ploughshares, Best American Experimental Writing, and elsewhere.
Catherine Bresner is the author of Can We Anything We See (Spuyten Duyvil, forthcoming 2025), the empty season (winner of the Diode Editions prize, 2018), and the artist book Everyday Eros (Mount Analog, 2017). Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in the VOLT, b l u s h, Denver Quarterly, Sixth Finch, Fonograf, Iterant, The Offing, Paperbag and elsewhere. Currently, she is the publicist for Wave Books and co- edits Spirit Duplicator, a biannual mimeograph magazine of poetry, with the poet Adam Munsey Tobin. She believes in a free Palestine.
Bill Carty is the author of We Sailed on the Lake (Fonograf Editions, 2023) and Huge Cloudy (Octopus Books, 2019), which was long-listed for The Believer Book Award. His poems have appeared in the 32 Poems, Best American Poetry, Denver Quarterly, Iterant, jubilat, Kenyon Review, Paperbag, and other journals. He has received poetry fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Artist Trust, Hugo House, and was awarded the Emily Dickinson Award from the Poetry Society of America. Originally from coastal Maine, Bill now lives in Seattle, where he is Senior Editor at Poetry Northwest. He teaches at Hugo House, the UW Robinson Center for Young Scholars, and Edmonds College.
Paul Hlava Ceballos is the author of banana [ ], winner of the AWP Donald Hall Prize for Poetry and the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award, and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. His collaborative chapbook, Banana [ ] / we pilot the blood, shares pages with Quenton Baker, Christina Sharpe, and Torkwase Dyson. He has fellowships from CantoMundo, Artist Trust, and the Poets House. He has been featured on the Poetry Magazine Podcast and Seattle’s the Stranger. He currently is the Poetry Editor of the Seattle Met and practices echocardiography.
