About this Event

The Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet returns to New York City for one night only! La Jarana is in Queens!

Join us on Tuesday September 7, 2025 for an inspiring (and very groovy) celebration of the band's 20th anniversary with the release of EL MUKI - on both vinyl and CD.

You are invited to immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Peruvian Jazz Music. Festejo, Lando, Zamacueca, Marinera...

These rich traditions will be brought to life for you by the incomparable energy of The Gabriel Alegría Afro-Peruvian Sextet.

The band's signature blend of traditional Peruvian sounds and modern jazz influences is at the core of this experience.

It's music that is cool, in a hot kind of way.

This WILL be the greatest night of music in all of New York City... 😉

As the Sextet takes the stage, you'll be transported to a world where the catchy grooves and soulful melodies that make up EL MUKI show you a side of Peru (and a side of New York) that you may have never thought about...

You are cordially invited to come and celebrate this epic release with the band live and in person!

More About the Artists...
The Afro-Peruvian Sextet has produced nine CDS, one documentary film and two vinyl records to date. Their audiences come from all over the globe.
During your magical evening celebrating the relese of El Muki with the band, you may even be invited to participate in Tour Perú - Behind the Scenes, an innovative concept by which fans of the band literally join the musicians on the road on tour in Peru!
With home bases in Lima and New York City, the band has been embraced by both cities. Hot House Magazine awarded the band New York City’s “Best Ensemble of the Year” award and the New York City Jazz Record “Best Latin Jazz Album.”
The band has successfully developed and consolidated a thriving “scene” around Afro-Peruvian jazz music. The Latin Jazz Network described the band in this way:
Every once in a while there comes a musician who, when playing his or her chosen instrument, seems to carry within a vital life-force that is irrepressible.
Celebrating 20 years is special...
