Day 1 option:
This workshop is foundations of proper applying and techniques used in the film industry in respect to wounds and the human condotion/casualty makeups.
3d transfers forever changed the film industry with it fast application times and the creation of these will be a large focus.
You will sculpt, mold, cast, paint, apply, and remove a 3d Transfer throughout the day and take home your mold to continue on your own. Between all these steps we will go over proper bruising techniques, makeup types and uses, trauma wounds and build-ups, etc.
These techniques have been compiled and used in our FX work and learned directly from an Emmy Award winning FX artist who worked with Rick Baker and KNB studios for years, Ben Rittnhouse.
Though foundational, this will be an immersive, yet somewhat intensive, hands-on learning experience. No previous experience needed however would not hurt in order to keep pace. Plan to also have makeup applied to you. As Makeup Artists, especially within the FX world, it is always good to experience some level of having makeup applied on you from the perspective of your future model/talent.
At the end of the day we will tour the neighboring haunt, Warehouse13, where you will photograph your work in a scene of your choice.
(We will begin early and go through the afternoon with a lunch break)
Day 2/Foam Latex Characters:
This workshop will be specifically for working with Foam Latex Prosthetics to either 1.) learn how to properly apply, finish, and remove it from a model
OR
2.) utilize an original technique creating a reusable sock masks.
This workshop we will work step by step with hands on instruction to apply, paint, and finish a foam latex character. Some experience using makeup would be helpful but not madatory to take this course. Once finished we will photograph our characters at the neighboring haunt.
