In collaboration with Pacific Future, day one is dedicated to exploring AI’s role in the future of filmmaking through the lens of technological innovation, artistic expression, and industry collaboration. This full day program will explore cinema and creative practice in the age of AI. Featuring impactful AI-driven films, panels with established and emerging leaders, the symposium aims to engage communities in timely dialogue about the future of film and streaming content. Day one includes a special reception hosted by Parallel 49 Brewing.

Day two brings together thought leaders from video games, animation, visual effects, live theatre, and XR to explore how AI is transforming the creative process and access. About Signals 2024
Signals Creative Tech Expo 2024, a premier event jointly organized by DigiBC and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), is set to be a pinnacle in the realm of creative technology, showcasing innovative storytelling across video games, XR (extended reality), virtual production, and AI. This year's expo, held from September 27 to October 6, promises to delve deeper into themes that resonate with the current global socio-political climate while continuing to celebrate the rich cultural narratives and technological advancements of Canadian and Indigenous artists. Programming for this year includes:
Beta Lounge: Interactive Digital Media Conference (Sept 27- 28): an exclusive two day conference within the expo, tailored for high-level discussions and networking in the XR and gaming sectors. In collaboration with XP Gaming, this two day conference will support indie game producers and creators in understanding the essential aspects of the video game business, including funding, marketing, game design, and post-mortems.
FutureCraft: AI Symposium (Oct 2-3): a series of panels, artist features and special screenings, that explore emergent AI tools and the distinctions between disruptive technologies and innovation, focusing on empowering human creativity rather than replacing it.
Signals Exhibition (Sept 27 - Oct 6) is our annual showcase of innovative storytelling in video games, immersive, virtual and augmented reality, virtual production and AI from top Canadian and Indigenous artists. During exhibition hours, audiences can step inside immersive digital worlds, test new video games, and connect to new artists and cultures by exploring the 20+ experiences at our newly transformed warehouse in False Creek Flats.

This event will take place on the unceded and ancestral territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, and has been stewarded by them since time immemorial.
