This intermediate-level fused glass class focuses on the creative use of open areas within your composition, teaching you how to design visually striking pieces by intentionally incorporating negative space.
You’ll refine your cutting skills while learning how to create voids, contours, and silhouettes that become an essential part of the overall design. Through strategic glass placement and thoughtful composition, you’ll discover how absence can be just as powerful as color and texture.
Emphasis will be placed on advanced cutting control, intentional spacing, and designing for contour and silhouette as you create a finished fused glass artwork that is both elegant and thought-provoking.
Prerequisites Required
Students must have completed:
Fused Glass Academy 101 – Intro to Fused Glass Basics
This ensures you are confident with cutting, layering fundamentals, and foundational firing concepts so we can focus on advanced fabrication and design development.
Class Details
Create one fused glass artwork focused on negative space design
Instruction in strategic glass placement and advanced cutting techniques
Design exploration centered on contour and silhouette
Duration: 3 hours
All supplies included
Finished artwork will be kiln-fired after class
Ages 16+
Skill Level: Intermediate
Closed-toe shoes required
Ready for pickup approximately 7–10 days after class
