Fused Glass 101: Slumping - Optical Illusion Dish
Advertisement
Explore the playful side of fused glass in this hands-on workshop designed for all experience levels.
In this class, you’ll create a visually striking glass plate using colorful glass stringers arranged in a way that creates a dynamic optical illusion effect. While the finished piece looks complex and dimensional, the process is approachable and guided step-by-step, making it a great introduction to fused glass techniques.
You’ll start with a base of sheet glass and learn how to cut, arrange, and manipulate thin glass stringers to build your design. As the glass fuses in the kiln, your pattern will transform into a smooth, cohesive surface with depth and movement.
Throughout the class, you’ll gain experience with foundational fused glass processes, including cutting and shaping glass, working with stringers, and designing for kiln transformation.
Glass fusing is the process of joining compatible sheet glasses together in a kiln until the glass fuses at approximately 1490 degrees Fahrenheit. It grants you the power to create colorful, dynamic works of glass art that are completely unique. Unlike many other glass forms, glass fusing allows you as much time as you need to bring your designs to life since you are working with the glass while it is cold.
Your fused glass projects will stay at the studio after the workshop to be fired in our kiln. We will notify you as soon as they’re ready to be picked up! *Shipping is available for an additional cost.
All materials and tools included.
