About this Event
Phones and tablets and computers grant you access to a world of connection, knowledge, education, and entertainment. At the same time, many of us become easily seduced by the media content programmed to grab and hold our attention in ways we are not even aware of.
While the significance of the device you use that allows you to share and express yourself cannot be denied, the effect of devices and media on society, interpersonal communication & even language skills is more than evident, and an ever-growing body research points to the risks and dangers inherent in them.
What are YOUR frustrations with social media and with “the device”?
Join us for a special presentation with licensed clinical counselor, artist and photographer Scott Lennox. Together, we’ll explore the obstacles and challenges our devices present to us and ways of managing ourselves more effectively. In this era of divisive opinions and the time- wasting “doom scroll” we often fall prey to, we’ll also look for positve content that enriches us rather than pulling us apart and making us fearful and anxious.
We will discuss:
- -establishing time limits on social media usage
- -the effects of online content on young people
- -the effects of device usage on overall mental health
- -how to improve your online experience by collecting more positive content into your feed
