VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— For 12 years the Virginia Beach Funk Fest Beach Party has brought the “funk” to the oceanfront for two days of electrifying music, great food, and unique vendors.

Music is the heart and soul of the festival, to be held on the beach at 24th Street Friday- Saturday, August 26-27. This festival is rain or shine.

This popular music genre draws influence from R&B, jazz, gospel, and blues. Funk artists like James Brown and George Clinton (the leader of Parliament-Funkadelic) inspired many musicians and helped spawn other genres like disco and hip hop.

General admission to the Virginia Beach Funk Fest Beach Party is free, but capacity is limited. General admission guests enter the festival site at 26th Street on the beach.

For our guests desiring a closer, more comfortable viewing experience, we offer a ticketed Preferred Viewing section.

The Preferred Viewing ticket is a two-day pass providing a closer viewing area (patrons bring their own beach chairs), dedicated portable restrooms, and a cash bar. Preferred Viewing admission is guaranteed, while general admission is limited and strictly first-come, first-served.

This year’s festival will be held on a different site on the beach at 24th Street. New Virginia Beach event guidelines designed to provide a safe festival-going experience include two (2) designated entry gates, limited boardwalk access, and limited crowd capacity.

Con Funk Shun – ConFunkShun was one of the successful bands in this wave, scoring 25 chart hits between 1976 and their break-up in 1987, including such smash hits as “Ffun,” “Chase Me,” “Electric Lady,” “Baby I’m Hooked” and others—many of which have been liberally sampled by the hip-hop generation

For over two decades they have found a way into our hearts and ears with their timeless and funky anthems and memorable slow jams. The new album is a testament to their staying power and ability to deliver music that is right on time and in the pocket. Michael Cooper sums up the secret to their success simply: “ConFunkShun is still all about Funk ‘N Love. That’s what we’ve always promoted.”

Morris Day & The Time – A Mega-Ego sized “M” monogrammed on every flashy jacket, and his cocky gimmicky earned talented vocalist Morris Day glaring spotlight–in front of a gang of musical side-kicks dubbed The Time. Morris Day and his quirky accompanists have carved out a sizable cult following over the past two decades as purveyors of catchy, contagious, multilayered funk.

The famed funksters deliver an “in the flesh” flava that keeps generations of fans flapping their limbs to “The Bird” and groovin’ to “Girl”. Playing to audiences that cross all racial, age and gender groups, Morris swoons the masses with his “it’s just me and the boys style.
