It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the Rt. Rev. Nicholas Deak, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Hungarian Greek Catholic Church in Welland ON, who passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024.
Visitation at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland: Thursday, November 28, 4–6:30 pm; with Order of Priestly Burial, Part One (Parastas) at 6:30 pm.
Visitation at St. John the Baptist Hungarian Greek Catholic Church, 111 Second Street Welland: Friday, November 29, 4–6:30 pm; with Order of Priestly Burial, Part Two at 6:30 pm. An all-night vigil will be held with the reading of the Gospel and Psalter.
Divine Liturgy with Panakhyda at St. John the Baptist Hungarian Greek Catholic Church: Saturday, November 30, 10:30 am; burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 50 Woodlawn Road Welland. The funeral will be presided by the Hungarian Metropolitan Archbishop; His Excellency, Bishop Gerard Bergie, of the Diocese of St. Catharines is also expected to be in attendance.
We remember the soul of the Rt. Rev. Nicholas and the Deak family in our prayers during this time of sorrow and loss. May his memory be eternal!
