About this Event
Workshop: Learn how to cast on, cast off, knit and purl while drinking tea and chatting. If you already know how to knit and want to come along and work on your project or start a new one, you’re most welcome!
We will also look at reading knitting patterns, and how to create your own pattern for illustration or text on your knitted pieces using online tools.
We will provide some materials, but if you want to make something to take home and continue please bring your own needles (and wool if you want something special)
Workshop will be taught in English and German.
Workshop host: Anna Benner
Anna Benner is an artist and animation filmmaker (her animation workshop is on the 3rd Nov if you want to sign up!). She learned to knit from her mum when she was a teenager and then three weeks later again from her grandma who said she did it all wrong! She likes freestyling her knitting projects. Currently she’s knitting a poetic blanket. The event photos are all pieces she’s made before.
Fundraising // Workshop series
This is a series of creative workshops we’re putting on at graumalerei to raise money for Palestine. We are supporting Haneen Koraz, who is running animation workshops for kids in Gaza, currently from refugee tents. I’ve been so inspired and awed by her dedication and resilience in providing relief through art to the children. 100% of your participation fees go to Haneen and the kids.
From Haneen- “ I deeply believe that every person has the right to express himself freely, and that art, making and learning cartoon films is one of the means of free expression, audio-visually, for all segments of society. I tried to change the reality, even if just a little, for the children and women in the tents I have conducted workshops specifically for children.”
Venue: graumalerei
We founded graumalerei in 2016 as a place for art and experimentation. Since then we have put on numerous exhibitions and workshops. We have a focus on drawing and animation and particularly love to put on shows by emerging artists.
Accessiblity: graumalerei is on the ground floor street level with a small step. We have a bathroom, but unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible.
