Fundraising from scratch

What should we be thinking about when fundraising for something new – whether that’s for a new organisation, a new project or a new direction?

So, you’ve got your idea, your trustees are on board, there’s a business plan – in outline at least – and you kind of know where it’s going – but then what? We recognise that it can be hard to know where to start. How can you prove it will work? How can you demonstrate impact when nothing has happened yet? Can you win over donors? And what if you’re starting with no money? What do you do when you have a metaphorical “blank sheet of paper”?

So many questions … this panel session will hear from people and organisations who have experience of the journey from new idea to sustainable delivery:

1) Kate Fowler, Interim CEO of Children’s Scrapstore, reflects on the launch of PlayPods 12 years ago. It was a new venture for a charity that previously took usable, safe waste materials and supplied them to artists and organisations working with children. The PlayPods project changed the nature of the charity and took them on a journey to working more directly with children themselves and to becoming a social enterprise

2) Jenny Foster, Development Manager of Global Goals, partner in Sparks Bristol and our host for this event – will describe their journey to their recent opening

3) Julian Temblett, The Charity Marketeer, is the fundraising lead trustee for the Cotswold Cats & Dogs Home which is starting a new building project to upgrade its facilities. Julian will share how he is planning to approach it from a marketing/fundraising point of view

People from the Global Goals Centre, one of the two charities working in partnership to manage Sparks Bristol, will be available to show us around.
