Gather in community to feel supported, safe, and free to feel deeply. We will also provide resources from Yogic philosophy and Voces de la Frontera so that you feel better prepared to step back out into the world. At the Main Street Yoga - Oregon studio on February 28th, we are hosting a donation-based event where all contributions will go to Wisconsin’s leading immigrant rights organization: Voces de la Frontera!!!
Sign up at www.mainstreetyogawellness.org/oregon-events/fundraiser-event and donate online, or bring cash when you arrive!
Contribute what you’d like to attend any or all of the offerings:
10:00 AM - 10: 45AM Guided Meditation
This meditation will draw you inward, away from the stuff of your mind, and into your body and breath - the starting point for which humans connect, feel, understand and express our emotions. The space will be held for all of your experiences and processing. You will be seated or laying down, assisted by props.
11: 00 AM - 11:45 AM Introduction to the Yamas & Niyamas
These are the ethical guidelines for how yogis interact with one another and themselves. We will draw from the text “The Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice.” You are more than welcome to simply listen, take notes, and/or chime in for discussion & questions.
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Yoga Nidra
This deeply restorative practice is sometimes called “Yogic Sleep,” but in fact, it guided your mind and body into the mode just before drifting into sleep. There, you may experience anything from intuitive insights, reconnection to essential self, and/or profound rest. You will be laying down in any way that is most comfortable, supported by props.
Voces de la Frontera’s Vision:
”We strive to create a world where all people live free of poverty and discrimination, have access to safe, dignified work, quality education, and health care; where immigrants can cross borders with dignity; and human rights and workers’ rights are respected; where government is truly “of the people”, and all families thrive.”
In 1998, Voces moved to Milwaukee and established an immigrant worker center that has played a critical role in advocating for immigrant workers rights and progressive policies, including the fight for federal immigration reform, restoring state drivers licenses and in-state tuition equity for immigrant youth, ending collaboration between ICE and local law enforcement, and fighting back against policies that criminalize immigrants and people of color.
