We want to take a moment to explain why this fundraiser is so important. Below you’ll find information about her illness, along with a video that shows the toll it takes on her body—bruises, scars, blisters, monthly infusions, and the emotional and physical strain she endures.She has been diagnosed with Acute Intermittent Hepatic Porphyria, a rare and painful genetic disease. The treatments she requires to survive are staggering in cost:
• Each infusion costs $10,000, and she needs four every month. These numbers don’t even include the additional fees from the infusion center.
• On top of that, she receives a monthly injection that costs $96,000.
• Altogether, her medical bills exceed $136,000 every single month just to keep her alive.
While she does have insurance, her out-of-pocket responsibility is still overwhelming—$5,500 each month, not including basic living expenses such as rent, electricity, or food.
She is also raising money in hopes of being treated at the Mayo Clinic, which is another heavy financial burden.
