Funding the Future of Tech Policy

Please join Public Knowledge and Steptoe for a reception supporting the next generation of tech policy advocates.

The fight to keep the public interest at the center of tech policy depends on skilled advocates. Building that talent, and opening the field to people who might not otherwise find a way in, is the work of PKTrains. Through PKTrains, Public Knowledge trains public interest fellows in the heart of tech policy advocacy, giving them hands-on experience with the decisions that shape copyright, privacy, competition, free expression, and artificial intelligence. Since 2014, the program has trained more than 20 full-time postgraduate fellows who have gone on to careers in tech policy, law, government, and social justice.

At the center of this work is the Sherwin Lee Siy Memorial Fellowship. Named for a beloved Public Knowledge leader and mentor, the endowed fellowship has already supported talented advocates now building careers at law schools, city government, and public interest organizations. Our goal is to fund it in perpetuity, so that it opens the door to promising advocates for generations to come.

We have raised over $600,000 toward our $1.5 million goal. This reception is the push to close the gap and fund the fellowship in full. With your support, we can ensure the next generation of advocates reflects the country they serve.
